National Day of Service: Standing Bear Park Clean-up

We gathered at Standing Bear Park today as part of the National Day of Service. 7 people and 2 children participated and look how much stuff we picked up. A lot of this trash came from a nearby dumpster that belongs to a local business. The dumpster doesn't have a lid so a lot of trash blows out. I asked the business what could be done about it and the reply was " we will see what we can do". Not what I was hoping for but it's the first step. We picked up trash from 11:30- 1:30 and a couple of p… Continue

National Day of Service

I also posted this in forums: Call to action.

Anyone want to organize an event for Green Scene? I would be a great way to meet each other! Post responses or comments in Call to Action forum.

Dear Amy,

Today, President-elect Obama called for a National Day of Service on Monday, January 19th, which is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the day before the presidential inauguration. The Sierra Club is answering President-elect Obama's call to service.
Will You Organize a Service Event?

Jerusalem Artichokes

You say Jerusalem Artichoke I say Sunchoke.

Tonight I cooked up Jerusalem Artichokes I harvested from my backyard. This was the first time I have grown and eaten them. I cooked them two different ways.

Hey Amy! Yes, I've got a spot at the 46th & Pioneers garden. Well, I think it's mine the flag was marked 'Adam Ryan'... oh well, I've got my stuff planted there. It's the first time I've ever gardened so I'm kinda making things up as I go.

Hi Amy,

Thanks for introducing me to this forum. I haven't figured out all the ins and outs, yet, but I'll figure out how to get Prairie Hill's website linked up.

Hey, Amy thanks for responding and your support. Wow is that your garden on the vido trailer? I'll look at it. Thanks for your support. I talked with Starhawk about doing our permaculture but decided to go more local so we could have ongoing contact with the expertise in Colorado...they are only a three hour drive away.
I am going to Mexico for seven weeks in about 5 days. We will be working with Gabriel Howerth who is the founder of Seeds of Change..now sold and working on saving seeds of central America. We want to do a set of training modules in a little village nearby where we have a small house in a community we are part of there.. bunch of foreigners that we are. Do you speak Spanish?

Hey Amy! Nope, the indoor garden is still stalled for now. Have been bogged down with sewing projects - holiday gift wrapping using fabric scraps, adding 'boy-sparkles' to Isaac's clothes....he often gets jealous of his little girlfriends who get to wear sparkly/shiny clothes, sooooo :-).
