Lincoln Green Scene

Lincoln, NE: sharing what "green" we have to attract what we lack.

Help me. Nasty clover, dying yard. Resisting gnarly chemicals...

Help me.

I have clover infesting my beautiful yard from my neighbor's house. I want to kill it with gnarly chemicals.

These are my confessions.

Clover... the most edible ground cover you can get short of dandelions!

Chemicals are for suckers. Buy a goat! ;)

I'm with blank on this one, I really like clover--excellent ground cover, bees love it, doesn't need water. I'm a grass hater though. My neighbor across the street probably wouldn't agree though, but I buy him off with organic spinach and eggs.

I'd also like to endorse our friends the clover. They don't take nitrogen out of the ground. They actually get it from the air and then give it to the land when they die making the land healthier. Andrea, what are you invisioning for this part of your yard?
Maybe this could be an opportunity to plant something that will keep the clover out and give your yard a splash of color, habitat for animals, or food for your stomach. Please whatever you do keep the streams and land clean. I will to help however I can. I'm sure the bioneers would like to help too.

Andrea, get a couple of rolls of lawn edgeing to separate your lawns. Then depending on amount it could be pulled out. You may want to start a couple of large plugs of buffalo grass. No need to ever mow or water after it is established.

Hey, do you know where I GET plugs of buffalo grass, Bruce?

Hey, all...I all the things we said here in this small question got me thinking all year. I never did chemical that yard, but I didn't do much about it, either. Ha! I liked Don's video about farming that he posted a while back, and it made me re-think what I want from my home--right down to what I truly think is "curb appeal."

I'm definitely going to have Amy Brt help me design what I want from my garden/yard. I'm getting two chickens in the Spring, and it will kick start a nice little "system."

Thanks, all, for planting the seeds. I'll post more later. :)
