Hey everyone, here's a link to the Community Crops page- home of the P street community garden and others. http://www.communitycrops.org/
Community CROPS (Combining Resources, Opportunities, and People for Sustainability) helps families grow food for themselves and the community.
There are many ways to get involved.

Thanks. Hopefully all I have read is over-reaction but one of her (DeLauro's) husband's clients is Monsanto.

Check out my Lincoln Green Sceen blog about the letter that Mid America CropLife Association wrote to Michelle Obama disagreeing with her about having the White House garden organic. Of course, this disagreement is to be expected because MACA's board is full of big ag people and pesticide companies, like Monsanto and Dupont.

Also check out http://www.lavidalocavore.org It is a very interesting site about gardening and it is also where I found a copy of the original letter written to Michelle Obama.

La Vida Locavore is the blog for anyone whose crazy life includes planting, growing, weeding, fertilizing, raising, picking, harvesting, processing, cooking, baking, making, serving, buying, selling, distributing, transporting, composting, organizing around, lobbying about, writing about, thinking about, talking about, playing with, and eating food!

Anyone know a thing or two about growing hops? I don't seem to have enough sun exposure in my garden area but I know the brewing community would benefit from some designated locations for local hops which would directly result in locally brewed beers (using said hops).

Check out the planning/design tools on this website: http://www.gardeners.com/Kitchen-Garden-Planner/kgp_home,default,pg.html. What do you think?

This is an exciting time of year. The kale, peas, radishes, lettuce and chard are starting to come up. May the rains begin.
The most fun is starting seeds w/ the little ones. The process fascinates them and there are even plants to show them yet.
We have a rain barrel, but Karl wants get a square vat at Snyder that will fit under the garage and drill the spigot in.
The Indian Village Neighborhood Association is working on developing a community garden w/ Community Crops at the church on 16th and Otoe. The church has provided the land and water. Sign up for your plot if you need one.

I added 4 fruit trees this year and am expanding the garden space. Trying to eventually get rid of the lawn. The grandkids are helping with the planning this year, so that will be fun (3 and 5 yr olds). They wanted banana trees but settled for peach and cherry. I'm also looking for 1-2 rain barrels. I picked up a list of places that sell them when I was at Pioneers park last week. I'll have to find the list and post the places here.
