Lincoln Green Scene

Lincoln, NE: sharing what "green" we have to attract what we lack.

My boys and I found this to be a fun reason to get on our bikes last summer. Quite a few of the sites aren't too far from trails, or can be reached without fighting major traffic. All you have to do is sign-up, get a number, then go to any library to get your packet, which consists of a map, crayons, and rubbing/clue booklet. FYI.

We loved participating in this last summer! I haven't signed up yet for this year, so thanks for the reminder. My daughter and I loved biking around to many of the locations. We even won a cool outdoor fountain at the Earth Day event drawing. Everything about the program is free. There was a state park safari, too...I'll check and see if they are doing it this summer. We brought our bikes with us to the parks and rode there. ;-)

I think the state park safari was sponsored by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. I just did a search of their site and the 'net, and didn't find anything - but they could be having it again.

I forgot about all of the prize drawings and freebies. We didn't make it to any of the events where you dropped your card in a drawing, but we did get several of the freebies offered at some of the locations - Lincoln Water System, Lower Platte South NRD, and Nebraska Forest Service/USDA National Agroforestry Center on East Campus, to name a few. One highlight was the dairy store on East Campus!
