I admit it I am kinda of a poopie head when it comes to expending extra effort to green up. The thought of having to carry canvas bags into the store just seemed like a bit too much effort. Theresa had gotten a few canvas bags from hobby lobby and we used them for about a month and they were a pain. They were a pain because they were actual canvas which had no structural strength and were too small. This pretty much soured me on reusable bags when shopping.
A thread over on my forum included a link to
one bag at a time which offers a pretty decent deal. 10 reusable bags for $16. I decided to go with them for a few reasons. The quality looked decent, the colors were pretty, the price was right, and the logo was not a local name brand. Just imagine the embarrassment of using a Russ's bag at Hy-Vee ;)
I ordered them and did not tell Theresa so that when they arrived I could pretend they were a present. I earned some husband points that way. Delivery was quick and the assortment of colors was pleasing. They are made of some sort of synthetic material which is surprisingly durable. We have been using them for a couple months now and only one has failed along a seam. Oh and a dog chewed through one.
It is now a pleasure to use them. I actually look forward to bringing them into the store with me.
* they hold more than the plastic ones.
* they stand on their own like a paper sack.
* Know how a plastic bag handle will turn into a thin piece of floss and cut into your fingers when it is filled with heavy stuff, not with these.
* When placed in the trunk they stay standing up which keeps stuff from spilling out of the plastic bags.
* The plastic insert can be taken out and the bags washed. Ours survived just fine after a washing.
* Paper bags with the glued on handle will never earn my trust.
Right now they have a deal where they include a ribbon bow with the bags so you can use them as reusable gift bags too. I am now a convert and suggest it to others because it actually makes shopping easier not more difficult.
