Lincoln Green Scene

Lincoln, NE: sharing what "green" we have to attract what we lack.

We are planning to create a new Market for Downtown. We are working with the Nebraska Cooperative Development Center to formulate a plan for the business, the NCDC works closely with Buy Fresh Buy Local and we a strong representation of local foods. Since it is downtown, close to campus and near the newly planned Assurity Corporate Campus we would like a bakery/coffeshop and a strong deli/prepared foods section. The location is 19th & "Q" St. Our planning meeting is scheduled for April 30th. Flyer is attached.

That sounds wonderfull.However.I have a question. Are there any plans for Havelock? There are several empty store fronts out here.

No plans for Havelock. We just had our first meeting and we have a long way to go to create a business enterprise. One thing that seemed to come our of our meeting was the idea that we need to provide a wholesale outlet as well as a retail outlet for local producers. It's a start!

Hi Doug,

Just joined green scene and saw your post. Just wondering if you've thought of a recycled section for the market. I make lots of things, mosiac tables, bird houses, rugs out of old sheets, etc. But I was mainly thinking of recycled denim products. I make skirts (girls and womens) and purses out of old blue jeans- I can make several a week- I'm also going to try (but haven't yet) making denim paper. You can check out my green scene page to see some examples- will upload skirts and purses soon. Lisa Lightner

What are your thoughts on this?

Hi Lisa,
It sounds like you have some great products. I really don't know what shape the market is going to take but our initial focus has been on food and creating a "downtown grocery store". Our building is 5000 sq ft which is small for a grocery store so we might be tight as it is. Hopefully there will be a variety of opportunities coming up in the Antelope Valley project, I think there is a Nebraska Product store in the Haymarket, you may want to check with them.
Good Luck!
Doug
