Lincoln, NE: sharing what "green" we have to attract what we lack.

Andrea Davis

Here's the full searchable text of the Stimulus Bill. What items do you find that might help Lincoln?

At first, we had trouble finding a pdf version of the Stimulus Bill. But recovery.gov has posted it's full text in .pdf.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

Upon opening this document, hit CTL + F, and a search box should come up. We should be able to search this document with a number of keywords and discuss what we find.

Keyword ideas: sustainable energy, green, alternative energy, coal, wind, home improvement, green jobs

I posted a discussion about a Treehugger webpage that displays some of the benefits for green home improvements, but is there anything that helps people get the money to start these projects in the first place?

Our hope is that with the power of numbers and technology, we can search out solutions for each other and post our thoughts here.

Those of you in local government, do you already know of green projects this Bill will support? Do the projects create jobs?

Is there text that mandates clean coal, for example?

What do you find in the way of green incentives for individuals and families? Do they only amount to tax credits? What about refunds? Do they extend beyond just this year?

Although the recovery bill states that tax credits of up to 30% of energy efficient home improvements will be available for certain purchases, I'm trying to figure out the part where the income cut-off is for weatherization assistance for low income households. Hard to find because of this wording:

"SEC. 407. WEATHERIZATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM AMENDMENTS. (a) INCOMELEVEL.—Section 412(7) of the Energy Conservation and Production Act (42 U.S.C. 6862(7)) is amended by striking ‘‘150 percent’’ both places it appears and inserting ‘‘200 percent’’. "

I'm trying to find the income levels marked in the Energy conservation and Production Act in the first place...

Ok, it appears that the weatherization funds are available to households with income levels of 200% of poverty level, up from the original amount of 150% in the Energy Conservation Act.

Poverty level for Nebraska is caculated with the Washington D.C. numbers found here: http://aspe.hhs.gov/POVERTY/09poverty.shtml

Go get your money... apparently there will be $41 mil for weatherization given to Nebraskans. http://journalstar.com/articles/2009/03/12/news/nebraska/doc49b9311...
