The lobby for the industry that brought you $4 per gallon gasoline prices last summer is now opposing the America’s Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES), a bill that will create millions of clean energy jobs, break our addiction to oil, and dramatically reduce the pollution that causes global warming. They claim to be concerned about its impact on consumers, but their numbers are phony and their motives dubious.
Phony numbers: API’s full page ads lie about the Congressional Budget Office’s analysis of ACES (H.R.2454). API’s claim about the impact of the bill on gasoline prices are nowhere to be found in the CBO report and are clearly inconsistent with CBO’s findings. In fact, the CBO report released earlier this week found that implementing ACES would cost less than 50 cents per day per household and that the bill would actually provide a small net benefit of $40 per year for low income households. EPA’s analysis indicates that the cost would be even lower.
Dubious motives: Exxon’s profits were $45 billion last year, which is more than CBO’s estimate of the total cost of implementing ACES in 2020. Americans want real change and real jobs building real stuff to deliver clean and affordable energy to consumers. That’s what ACES will deliver.
Don’t let API lies block the real change that voters are demanding: energy security, clean energy jobs, and climate protection. Support H.R.2454, America’s Clean Energy and Security Act.
