Lincoln Green Scene

Lincoln, NE: sharing what "green" we have to attract what we lack.

I have been having trouble with a bathtub drain for about two weeks. It has been backing up and draining slowly. I tried to plunge and plunge and plunge, but it was not having the desired effect of eliminating the clog completely. I really did not want to pour any Draino or other harsh chemical down there. Not just because I am sensitive to the effect of adding that to the water supply, but also because in my experience (yes, I admit it, I've been an offender) they don't work! So I found a recipe online: 1/4 cup baking soda followed by 1/2 cup vinegar. Close the drain and let it sit for 15 minutes. Boil 2 quarts of water. Open the drain and pour in the hot water. I followed the instructions and was initially disappointed because the hot water just sat there and the tub didn't seem to be draining at all. But I waited about 1 minute and all of a sudden. Whoosh! The clog gave way and the tub drained at full speed. I am so impressed and want to spread the word. Try it if you get the opportunity.

You have no idea how good the timing of this post is for my tub!
