Insane Money Saved with Stuffins Diapers!

Little Buddies on the day they started smiling

My best buddy, Dana, had twin boys in August (this picture is me when I visited them in New Mexico in October). She and her husband, Mike, decided to purchase Stuffins cloth diapers because they discovered how much money they would save while helping to keep diapers out of the landfill:

Some friends had bought them some disposables as gifts, so they are stacked there on the blankie for night time or afternoon emergencies.

Using these for twins saved her $3 Grand.

If a mom and dad with twins can manage these, so can you!

And the system is easy. Her husband, Mike, washes the diapers in the washing machine while they watch tv. He hangs the outsides on the shower door and the tub ledge. He dries the inserts in the drier, turning them on to tumble before bed. In the morning before work, he picks up the dry inserts out of the drier and throws them and the outsides from the shower in a wicker basket. He dumps it on the floor by his ipod player, and rocks out while he stuffs the inserts into the stylish little outer wrappers.

They have snaps to expand as they grow.

As the picture above shows, the tall white lined bucket is for dirties, and the wooden wicker basket (at the top of the picture) has all the the clean and freshly stuffed diapers ready to go. The little white tub of wipes are actually little white cotton washcloths they dampen with water and add olive oil to--so the wipes go in with the dirties. AND, they are stylish little butts on these dudes. (Joaquin in the foreground, Javier behind him, on the week they started smiling and laughing out loud).

Here are the details on care: Happy Heinys Care and Sizing

From Birch Tree Baby FAQ's:
Will I really save money? Absolutely! Babies go through about 7,000 diaper changes before they learn to use the potty. This averages out to about two to three thousand dollars in plastic diapers, depending on the brand you use and average local prices. On the other hand, full time diapering in cloth is much cheaper. Consider these numbers, based on our prices. 1 Infant Package (24 infant prefolds plus 6 small covers) 1 Premium Package (24 premium prefolds plus 6 medium covers) 6 large covers (once baby grows out of the mediums) 2 extra snappis Approximately $296 Saving you $1704 to $2704

Even if you choose to use pocket diapers exclusively you’ll still save money!

24 One-Size Pocket Diapers (Happy Heiny's or bumGenius)
9 extra hemp inserts for overnights (3 small, 3 medium, 3 large)
Approximately $506
Saving you $1494 to $2494

24 Small Happy Heiny’s with 21 microfiber inserts and 3 hemp stuffins
16 Medium Happy Heiny’s with 13 microfiber inserts and 3 hemp stuffins
12 Large Happy Heiny’s with 9 microfiber inserts and 3 hemp stuffins
Approximately $950
Saving you $1050 to $2050

Additional cost-saving benefits: Use your cloth diapers for more than one child- doubling your savings for each child. And when you’re done, resell them! Cloth diapers generally retain about 50-75% of their original value when reselling
