Lincoln Green Scene

Lincoln, NE: sharing what "green" we have to attract what we lack.

As some of you may know, I work for the City of Lincoln Watershed Management Division and we are trying some new things for public education, and one of them involves Rain Barrels. We already have a class at SCC (I welcome everyone to come!) and now we are launching an Artistic Rain Barrel Program!
Anyone and any group can apply to paint a rain barrel any way they choose and have it displayed in local businesses and libraries all over town. At the end of the public display, your barrel auctioned off to benefit Pioneers Park Nature Center. This is a great opportunity to get involved in a public art project, display your work, and encourage environmental education.

If you or you think someone you know may be interested in this project, please visit lincoln.ne.gov, keyword: rain barrel, to learn more!
*The deadline to apply is Jan 30th*

Feel free to contact me if you want to know more or want pictures of what other cities have done similar to this :)

I'm so stoked about this.

I encourage everyone to put out the word on this - it is a neat idea for a great cause. The Nature Center will use the funds for terrific programming and stewardship at their new building (LEED certified, by the way).

I sent the information to JD Hutton who is the communications director for the Nebraska Arts Council, in case they weren't aware of it already. Hopefully she will help to spread the word.

Amanda! So great to "meet" you today at the Lincoln Green By Design meeting. It's really cool to hear how many other things you are interested in. It will be good to run into you again at events.
